Cohen-Bray House    

Victorian Preservation Center of Oakland

The Cohen Bray House is an historic house museum.  It has been in the National Register of Historic Places and an Oakland City Landmark since 1976. When you enter this House you will step back in time to 1884 and begin a journey through the life of the Cohen Bray family, the City of Oakland and your own family history.

We welcome you to the Cohen Bray House website where you may learn more about the history of the house and our present and future plans for maintaining this historic property for the benefit of the community.


Paranormal Exploration of the  Cohen Bray House

Saturday November 4, 5-10 PM

Interested in the Paranormal?  Never had a chance to learn about it?

YOU CAN JOIN US and be lead by an experienced guide.

We will have a short tour of the house and then spend time in all the rooms where Paranormal activity has been detected.

A donation of $50.00 is requested          A Light snack will be provided.

Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets

Weather these days is changeable could be hot or cold in the house, please bring warm clothes.

Parking is available in back of the house.  Carpooling recommended

Garden Work Day Every Month

Due to Thanksgiving we have not chosen a date yet.  

We are expanding some  beds and working in the front of our Oak Tree Farm Garden.  Come help weed, plant, prune, dig and enjoy being in a 133 year old garden in the Fruitvale District of Oakland

10 am-2pm  Drinks and snacks provided

Let us know you are interested in helping and we will send you a reminder.


You will not be able to capture any pokemon unless you sign up for a tour of the house. We are a private non profit museum only open to the public on our tour day. Do not trespass on our property. Please contact us through email to make a reservation for our next tour.

Jim is  a local videographer with an interest in documentaries, history and the paranormal.  He has donated many hours to create videos for us.  The videos are based on family stories that have been passed down.  Thank you Jim for your generosity and support.


Recent Events

Our Harvest Beer pop up day on October 15 was wonderful. 150 people came, we listened to music, enjoyed the lovely weather, carved pumpkins and tour the house.


Over fifty people joined us for our Be Our Valentine Tea  February 26, 2017

Join us in celebrating the marriage of A.H. Cohen and Emma Bray.  133 years ago on February 28, 1884 they were married and began living in this lovely home.

You will have a tour of the house with rarely seen objects from the original wedding. We will display photos from the many family weddings that took place in the house and we will serve you a delicious tea in the dining room.

We encourage you to wear period clothing from 1880's to1960's.


Rebuild Together Oakland

RTO came and completed our kitchen porch, built new compost bins, and much more.  Thank you so much Rebuild Together Oakland.

' Drink Historically ' our 2nd annual pop up beer event

Come join us for the second annual pop-up beer garden at the Cohen Bray House. Enjoy a cold beverage, local eats, games and more under the 130 year old elm trees.

This was a lovely event. 150 people joined us for great food, beer and tours of the house

Volunteer and Member Appreciation Day

Sunday April 3, 1-3 pm

This was an invitation only event for members and volunteers who are the heart of our organization.  This day you will spend in the house, looking at our collections, sharing experiences, eating good food and imagining what might be next for our house.

Rebuild TogetherOakland  Transforms the Front and Back Gardens

Rebuild Together Oakland and 150+ volunteers arrived on October 23, 24 and helped the Cohen Bray House take a giant step to re creating Oak Tree Farm and building a community learning garden in the back garden.  Please go to their website to support this amazing Community Group.

We all had a lovely time in the Garden !  Many Thanks to The Dudes Brewery, Old Belle,  Safeway  for donating pumpkings, Trader Joe's for donating apples and cider. Thank you all for coming and for being such vibrant supporters of our house, garden project and the community. . All of this would not have been possible with out the many volunteers and guests.  It was a great day !
